Rocky Marciano oli kivenkova nyrkkeilijä, jolle on
yritetty hakea vertaista siinä kuitenkaan onnis-
tumatta.Ottelulista 49-0 ( 43 ko ) ei jätä turhille selittelyille sijaa.Rocky onkin tähänmen-
nessä ainut urallaan voittamattomana kehästä vetäytynyt raskaansarjan mestari.
Rocky ei ollut suuri mestari kooltaan,
jopa 40-ja 50-lukujen mittapuulla mitattuna hän
oli pienikokoinen sarjaansa.Pituutta sekä ulottu-
vuutta 179 cm ja painoa hieman reipas 80 kiloa antoivat vastustajille fyysisen edun.Muuta etua
ei sitten tullutkaan.Aina pitää muistaa, että raskaansarjan ammattinyrkkeily ei ole kehonraken-
nuskilpailua eikä missikilpailua,kyse on puhtaasti
vastustajan rökittämistä Queenberryn markiisin
laatimin sääännöin.Rocky oli myös aloittaessaan
liian vanha ( 23 v ) ja valmentajien mukaan häntä ei
oltu liiemmillä lahjoilla lajiin siunattu.
Marcianolla oli kuitenkin valtava voitontahto ja usko itseensä.Ne yhdistettynä kovaan ja ankaraan
harjoitteluun tekivät hänestä kehän legendan.
Brutaalin yksinkertaisen tekniikan omaksunut Brocktonin murskaaja iski molempien käsien heilahduslyöntejä lähi-ja puolietäisyydeltä loppu
konginkumahdukseen tai niin kauan kuin vastustaja
kesti tolpillaan.Rocky myös näytti sietävän kipua
lähes yli-inhimillisesti otellen useita eriä nenä
haljenneena ja silmäkulmat lähes aina pahasti verta valuen.Kahdessa käymässään MM-ottelussa hän
nousi kanveesin kautta voittajaksi.
Nyrkkeilyn Hall of Fameen hänet valittiin v.1959.
Marciano kuoli lento-onnettomuudessa 31.8.1969.
Häneltä jäi näkemättä uransa viimeinen "ottelu".
Tietokoneohjelmalla tehty taisto Muhammad Alia vastaan esitettin ensi-iltana 20.1.1970 600 sadas-
sa elokuvateatterissa ympäri USA:ta.Marciano voitti ottelun tyrmäyksellä 13:ta erässä.
